Actress Paz Vega to be Seminci partron of honour

Vega is one of the most internationally renowned Spanish actresses, and has starred in dozens of films in Europe and the United States

 

10/21/2017.- Actress Paz Vega will be the Patron of Honour at the 62nd Valladolid International Film Festival, a role that she will carry out tomorrow, Saturday, October 21st, at the Opening Gala of the new edition of Seminci. There she will read a letter that the Festival Director, Javier Angulo, has dedicated to the public, guests, and film industry professionals who will visit the city over the next eight days.

Paz Vega is one of the most internationally recognized Spanish actresses, and has starred in dozens of films in Europe and the United States. After participating in the television comedy Siete vidas [Seven Lives], she made the leap to the big screen in 2001 with Lucía y el sexo [Sex and Lucia], by Julio Medem, and Sólo mía [Mine Alone], by Javier Balaguer, which was released in the Official Section of the 41st Seminci.

In the Goya Awards of that same year, Paz Vega was nominated for Best New Actress for both of these roles. She would end up winning the award for her part in Medem’s film. In 2002, Vega participated in Hable con ella [Talk To Her], by Pedro Almodóvar, and starred in El otro lado de la cama [The Other Side of the Bed] by Emilio Martínez Lázaro. In 2003, she brought to life to the character of Carmen in the film of the same name by Vicente Aranda, and also starred in Di que sí [Say I Do]. Her role in the latter caught the attention of James L. Brooks, who invited her to star in the USA film Spanglish. This was the first milestone of her important international career.

The actress has worked with prestigious filmmakers from all over the world, such as Frank Miller, Danis Tanovic, Oliver Parker, Michelle Placido, the Taviani brothers, and Paul Schaerder; as well as with Spaniards such as Pedro Almodóvar, Vicente Aranda, Emilio Martínez Lázaro, and two who will join us in the 62nd edition of the festival: José Luis García Sánchez (Don Mendo Rock ¿La venganza? [Mr. Mendo Rock: Revenge?]) and Ray Loriga (Teresa: Cuerpo de Cristo [Theresa: The Body of Christ]).
