‘Al otro lado del muro’, a look at reality

10/24/2017.- On its fourth day, the 62nd edition of Seminci screened the documentary Al otro lado del muro [The Other Side of the Wall]. It follows a family of Honduran migrant refugees living in Mexico. Based on real events, the film tells the story of a brother and sister who are forced to act as guardians of their two younger siblings, due to their mother’s inexplicable arrest and imprisonment.

Its director, Catalan filmmaker Pau Ortiz, met this family four years before when he was working for an NGO that worked with imprisoned women. In his film, he conveys to the audience the helplessness and perplexity the protagonists suffer. The documentary also explores the current complicated situation for Mexicans who want to emigrate north. Al otro lado del muro [The Other Side of the Wall] has already won awards in festivals like those of Toronto, Zurich, Malaga, and DocsBarcelona.
