Brice Cauvin

French director and screenwriter who is also currently a professor at the Fémis School (Paris Film School) and the London Film School. He specializes in Acting Management. Cauvin graduated with a degree in English Linguistics and Literature and then began his career as a scriptwriter and assistant director in France for directors such as Maurice Pialat, Nicole Garcia, Patrice Leconte, Pierre Salvadori, etc. At the same time he directed short films, among them, ‘Faux Bourdon’, which won a César Award. His first feature film was ‘Hotel Harabati’ (2006), which premiered at the Berlinale and won a Variety Award. In addition, the magazine ‘Sight and Sound’ considered it one of the ten best films of 2006 and it was shown in festivals in more than thirty countries. His most recent production, ‘L'Art de la Fugue’ (2014), starring Agnès Jaoui and Laurent Lafitte, is an adaptation of Stephen McCauley's novel ‘The Easy Way Out’. It received positive reviews in the press and a good reception from the public. It premiered at the San Francisco Festival and was screened in over fifteen countries.

Claire Dobbin

Australian screenwriting consultant and editor who works all around the world for different film agencies and filmmakers. In addition, she is vice president and scriptwriter at the international script workshop éQuinoxe Europe and teaches screenwriting workshops and lectures in Europe and the Middle East. Between 1986 and 2000 she was the head of development of the Australian Film Commission (the then Australian National Film Agency). Her work consisted of promoting and supporting the investments in the development and production of Australian films. Since 2003 she has been the president of the Melbourne International Film Festival, considered by the International Screen Guide to be Australia's most important film event. She also presides over the investment fund of the festival, where she has overseen more than fifty projects with worldwide premieres in Melbourne. She has also been an international jury member at various festivals and is a creative consultant to the Advisory Board and scriptwriter for the Asia Society in her film support program in India.

Ray Loriga

Novelist, screenwriter and film director, born in Madrid in 1967. He is the author of the novels ‘Lo peor de todo’ (The Worst Thing of All) (1992), ‘Héroes’ (1993), ‘Caídos del cielo’ (My Brother’s Gun) (1995), ‘Tokio ya no nos quiere’ (Tokyo Doesn't Love Us Anymore ) (1999), ‘Trífero’ (2000), ‘El hombre que inventó Manhattan’ (The Man Who Invented Manhattan ) (2004), ‘Ya sólo habla de amor’ (He’s Just Talking About Love) (2008), ‘Sombrero y Mississippi’ (Hat and Mississippi) (2010), ‘El bebedor de lágrimas’ (Tear Drinker) (2011), ‘Za Za, emperador de Ibiza’ (Za Za, Emperor of Ibiza) (2014) and the very recent ‘Rendición’ (Rendition), which one the Alfaguara Novel Award in 2017. He has also published the short story collections ‘Días extraños’ (Strange Days) (1994), ‘Días aún más extraños’ (Even Stranger Days) (2007) and ‘Los oficiales y el destino de Cordelia’ (The Officials and Cordelia’s Fate) (2009). His literary work, which has been translated into fourteen languages, is among the best valued by national and international critics. As a screenwriter he has collaborated with, among others, Pedro Almodóvar (‘Carne trémula’ [Live Flesh], 1997) and Carlos Saura (‘El 7o día’ [The 7th Day], 2004). He has directed the films ‘La pistola de mi hermano’ (My Brother’s Gun) (1997), adapted from his novel ‘Caídos del cielo’, which participated in the Official Section of the 42nd Valladolid Film Week, and ‘Teresa, el cuerpo de Cristo’ (Teresa: The Body of Christ) (2007). He has collaborated in publications such as ‘Ajoblanco’, ‘El Europeo’ and ‘El País’.

Uberto Pasolini

He began working in the film industry in 1983, and ten years later he founded Red Wave Films. His first independent production was ‘Palookaville’ (Alan Taylor, 1995), followed by many others such as ‘Full Monty’ (Peter Cattaneo, 1997). His filmography includes films such as ‘The Closer You Get’, written by William Ivory; ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, starring Ian Holm; or ‘Bel Ami,’ starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas, adapted from Guy de Maupassant's homonymous novel. In 2008 he directed, co-wrote and produced ‘Machan’, set in Sri Lanka and shot in Sinhalese, which won numerous awards at international festivals. In 2013 he wrote, produced and directed ‘Still Life’, considered by the European Film Academy as one of the best films of the year and which won awards such as best director in the Orizzonti section of the 2013 Venice Film Festival and best film in the Reykjavik Film Festival.

Emma Lustres

Spanish producer. She was born in O Grove (Pontevedra) in 1975. In January 2003, she founded the production company Vaca Films together with Borja Pena with the aim of producing quality projects that would see commercial success in national and international markets. Among her most recent releases are ‘Cien años de Perdón’ (To Steal from a Thief), by Daniel Calparsoro, number one at the box office, and ‘El desconocido’ (Retribution), by Dani de la Torre, which won two Goya awards. This year she produced De la Torre’s second film, the gangster thriller ‘La sombra de la ley’ (The Shadow of the Law), which will premiere next summer with a cast led by Luis Tosar and Michelle Jenner. She was also in charge of productions such as ‘Extinction’, directed by Miguel Ángel Vivas and starring Matthew Fox and Jeffrey Donovan; ‘El niño’ (9 Mil), by Daniel Monzón (a great box-office success and winner of four Goyas); ‘Somos gente honrada’ (Here’s the Deal), Alejandro Marzoa's first feature; ‘Lobos de Arga’ (Game of Werewolves), by Juan Martínez Moreno; ‘Secuestrados’ (Kidnapped), by Miguel Ángel Vivas (Silver Méliès Prize); ‘Retornos’ (Returns), by Luis Avilés; and ‘Celda 211’ (Cell 211), by Daniel Monzón (one of the great successes of recent Spanish cinema, winner of eight Goyas).

Santiago Tabernero

Journalist, screenwriter and film director. He made his directorial debut in 2007 with ‘Vida y color’ (Life and Colour), for which he also wrote the script, and which won awards such as the Audience Award in 52nd Valladolid International Film Festival, the award for best Latin American film in Miami, best script in Toulouse and received a nomination for the Goya for best new direction. In 2013 he returned to the camera with ‘Presentimientos’ (Inside Love), which was screened in the 58th Valladolid Film Week. He also directed the short films ‘Tiempo muerto’ (Time Sweep) (co-directed with Iñigo Rotaetxe, 1998), ‘El amor’ (Love) (2007) and ‘El amor 2’ (2008). As a scriptwriter, his credits include ‘Desvío al paraíso’ (Shortcut to Paradise) (Gerardo Herrero, 1994), ‘Taxi’ (Carlos Saura, 1996), ‘Asfalto’ (Asphalt) (Daniel Calparsoro, 2000) and ‘César y Zaín’ (Larry Levene, 2005). As a journalist he has developed a good part of his career in TVE, creating original works such as ‘Versión Española’ (Spanish Version), ‘Carta blanca’ (Hall Pass) or the talk show trilogy ‘Torres y Reyes’, ‘Alaska y Coronas’ and ‘Alaska y Segura’. Associated regularly with film programs (he’s currently working on ‘Días de Cine’ [Cinema Days]), he has also directed numerous music videos, for Miguel Bosé, Alejandro Sanz and Joan Manuel Serrat, among others.


Stefan Ivančić

Director and producer born in the former Yugoslavia in 1985, who currently resides and works in Belgrade (Serbia). He lived in Barcelona between 1991 and 2009, where he finished his career in mechanical engineering while developing his interest in film and began to write film critiques. He was one of the founders of the online film magazine ‘Contrapicado’ and was editor of the magazine ‘Lumière’. After 18 years away from his hometown, in 2009 he returned and finished film studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Art in Belgrade in 2013. His filmography includes the short films ‘Soles de primavera’ (Springtime Suns) (2013), ‘Moonless Summer’ (2014) and ‘A Handful of Stones’ (2017), and the documentary short films ‘Sekundarna sirovina’ (Scrap Material) (2012) and ‘1973’ (2014). His films have been shown in festivals such as Cannes, Rotterdam, Marseille, San Sebastián and Visions du Réel, among others. He is currently an assistant professor at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and one of the programmers in the ‘Pardi di domani’ section of the Locarno Festival, and is the programming director of the Pancevo Festival (Serbia).

Lamis Ammar

Palestinian actress born in Acre in 1992, she graduated in 2009 from the Orthodox College of Haifa. Between 2011 and 2015 she studied Theater and Dramatic Arts before graduating from the University of Haifa. After making her film debut in the short film ‘When We Kissed’ (Nayef Hamoud, 2013), she starred in several short films before starring in her first feature film, ‘Sufat Chol’ (Sand Storm) (Elite Zexer, 2016) which participated in the Official Section of the 61st Valladolid International Film Festival. This year she starred in the short film ‘Things About Love and War’, directed by Nihad Sabri. In terms of live theater, since 2012 she has participated in various works with groups such as the Haifa University Company; Al Horeya, from the Jenin refugee camp; Al-Kasabi, from Ramallah; AlJbeeneh, from Haifa; Al Karma, Haifa; or the Alkhayal Shadow Theater Grouping. She has also written and directed several pieces of video art and performance pieces such as ‘Postwar’ (2011), a monologue at the 2013 'Arak' street art festival in Haifa; ‘Day Al Bet’ (2013); and a video art piece for the Bet Hagafen Gallery in Haifa (2017).

Gerardo Morán

Graduated from Universidad Anáhuac México Norte, Morán is a Mexican producer with about ten years of experience in cinematography. Founder and director of the production company Zamora Films (2007), which was created with the purpose of offering high quality audiovisual content that demonstrate the collective imagination. National and international, his collaborations with countries like Spain and France have allowed him to present his works in the film festivals of Morelia, Rome, Rotterdam, Venice and Seville, among others. His filmography is composed of fourteen works, both short and feature-length films, including films such as ‘Esa de rojo’, ‘La guerra de Manuela Jankovic’ (The War of Manuela Jankovic) or ‘Elvira, te daría mi vida pero la estoy usando’ (Elvira, I Will Give You My Life But I’m Using It), by Manolo Caro. In 2016 he premiered ‘7:19’, by Jorge Michel Grau; ‘Pozoamargo’, by Enrique Rivero (New Waves Award at the Seville European Film Festival); ‘Epitafio’ (Epitaph), by Yulene Olaizola and Rubén Imaz; and ‘La vida inmoral de la pareja ideal’ (Tales of an Immoral Couple), by Manolo Caro. He collaborates in the film section of the magazine ‘Moi’ and will soon finish his Master's Degree in Art History at the Universidad Anáhuac.


Nicolás Echevarría

Born in Tepic (Mexico) in 1947, Echevarría studied Architecture at the University of Guadalajara, as well as Music at the National Conservatory in Mexico City. At the age of 25, he traveled to New York and began his career in film: he participated in the ‘underground’ studio Millennium Film Workshop, and studied drawing and animation at the School of Visual Arts. In 1973 he returned to Mexico to direct documentaries such as ‘Judea, Semana Santa entre los Coras’ [‘Judea: Holy Week Among the Cora’] (1974), ‘Teshuinada, Semana Santa in Tarahumara’ [‘Teshuinada: Holy Week in Tarahumara’] (1980), for which he was recognized with the Ariel Award for Best Documentary, and ‘Poetas campesinos’ [‘Rural Poets’] (1980). In collaboration with Octavio Paz, he filmed ‘Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz o las trampas de la fe’ [‘Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, or The Traps of Faith'] in 1988. In 1991 he shot 'Cabeza de Vaca,’ his first full length fictitious film, which was selected in the Berlin International Film Festival, and nominated for the Ariel Award for Best Debut. For television he has made documentary series such as ‘La Guerra de los Cristeros’ [‘The Cristeros’ War’] (1997), ‘Maximiliano y Carlota’ [‘Maximiliano and Carlota’] (2004), ‘Memorial del 68’ [‘Memorial for 1968’] (2008), ‘Eco de la Montaña’ [‘Echo of the Mountain’] (2014), and ‘La Constitución de 1917. Ayer, hoy y después’ [‘The Constitution of 1917: In the Past, Present, and Future’] (2017). He is also the academic director of the post-production documentary laboratory DocuLab Guadalajara, at the Guadalajara International Film Festival.

Guillermo García López

López is a director and scriptwriter, born in Madrid in 1985. He studied Audiovisual Production at the Puerta Bonita Institute in Madrid, before graduating in Audiovisual Communication from the Complutense University of Madrid. His first feature film, ‘Frágil equilibrio’ ['Fragile Balance'],  won the Goya for Best Documentary Film in 2017. It had its international premiere at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam, and won, among other awards and festival selections, the DOC. Spain prize at its national premiere at the 61st Valladolid International Film Festival. López is the co-founder of the production company Sintagma Films, that since 2013 has developed cinema and publicity projects. Among these is "La gran desilusión" [‘The Great Disillusion’] by Pedro González Kühn, which was nominated for Best Documentary Short Film at the 2014 Goya Awards. He also collaborates with the Madrid School of Architecture on projects that combine cinema and architecture. As a result of this collaboration, in 2017 he directed the audiovisual installation ‘Montajes cotidianos desde la frontera’ ['Everyday Montages from the Border’].

Diego Mas Trelles

Director of corporate videos, advertisements, video clips, short films, TV programs, art films, reports, and numerous documentaries of medium-  and full-length for TV channels such as ARTE, TVE, TV3, Canal +, TVG, Aragón TV, FR3, TF1, ARD, ZDF, SWF, WDR, USA Networks, VH1, Canal22 and Calle 13. His latest documentary feature, 'Sexo, maracas y chihuahuas' [‘Sex, Maracas, and Chihuahuas’], has been screened at numerous international festivals, premiered in Spain, and was nominated for a Gaudí Award. He has worked as an associate producer on feature films 'No sos vos soy yo' [‘It’s Not You, It’s Me’], ‘Ataque verbal’ [‘Verbal Assault’], and 'Lena.’ His credits as executive producer of feature films include 'Señora Beba' [‘Live-In Maid’] and ‘Tuve un sueño contigo’ [‘I Dreamt About You’]. Trelles has also executive produced full-length documentaries such as 'Franco,' and the TVmovie 'Diario de un skin' [‘Diary of a Skinhead’]. He worked as the director of production on feature films 'Lena’ and ‘Antonio: un rapaz de Lisboa’ [‘Antonio: A Boy from Lisbon’]. He has been coordinator of Programming for DocumentaMadrid, leader of the Eurodoc section of the Seville European Film Festival, Spanish delegate of the Geneva International Film Festival, and president of DocusMadrid.


Leire Apellaniz

Apellaniz was born in Bilbao in 1975. She has worked in the international film festivals of Valladolid, Gijón, Sevilla, and Las Palmas, as well as in Documenta Madrid. For eight years, she has been in charge of the Technical Department of the San Sebastián International Film Festival. Since its opening, she is also responsible for screenings in Tabakalera. At the same time, she has worked diligently as a producer in various audiovisual projects through her production company Sr & Sra. She has recently produced and directed her first feature film, 'El último verano' [‘The Last Summer’] (2016), which was selected at festivals around the world, including Seminci. In 2016 she produced the short film 'Ihesa', directed by Alejandro Díaz Castaño. She is currently immersed in the postproduction of Cristóbal Fernández and Ana Schulz’s first documentary, titled ‘Mi espía íntimo’ [‘My Personal Spy’]. Apellaniz is also currently finalizing the development of the first feature by Aritz Moreno, ‘Ventajas de viajar en tren’ ['The Advantages of Traveling By Train']. She is simultaneously producing the first full-length documentary by Maider Fernández Iriarte, 'Las letras de Jordi' [‘Jordi’s Letters’]. 'Las veranas' is her first foray into fictitious features.

Maite Conesa

Born in Béjar (Salamanca), Conesa graduated in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. She was the head of the Archives and Cooperation section of the Castilla y León Film Library from its opening in 1991 until 2013. Since then, she has spent the past four years as the director of this Film Library. For more than two decades, Conesa has taught the subject 'Media and Cinema in Modern-day Spain' at the University of Salamanca. She has a degree in History from this same institution, and is a specialist in the study of photography as a source of history, specifically in the work of photographers Venancio and Amalio Gombau, and Jose Núñez Larraz. Her latest publication is the catalog of photographic collections of the Castilla y León Film Library. Conesa’s most recent works are part of her duties as programmer of cinematographic activities, and of design and production of the expository proposals of the Film Library. As a journalist she has been editor-in-chief of the science and technology magazine 'Nuevo Siglo' [‘New Century’] (1987-1991), collaborator for the theater magazine 'El Público' [‘The Audience’] (1987-1990), has worked in TVE (1990-1995), and collaborated in numerous written media.

Tamara Gª Iglesias

Iglesias is a 'videomaker' and independent curator, born in Lasarte in 1978. She was director of the International Short Film Festival of Aguilar de Campo from 2006 to 2012. Iglesias was a founding member of the MAPA audiovisual group, which worked in Arteleku (Guipúzcoa) between 2010 and 2013, bringing to life the program 'Cine Raro' [‘Strange Cinema’]. She has worked as an independent curator in various different exhibitions. In 'This Is Just to Say' (Recoleta Cultural Center, 2016), she developed the curator program 'MAPA Export' based on her experiences in MAPA. Her other projects include: working with the curator project 'Puente' [‘Bridge’]; developing the curatorial project 'Versus;’ working as a curator at the feminist exhibition 'Mitominas, 30 años después' [‘Mitominas: 30 Years Later’], which brought together 19 feminist artists; and curating 'Mujeres sin ley' [‘Lawless Women’], an exhibit within the program 'Ellos' [‘Them’] at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Buenos Aires. Her filmography as a screenwriter and director includes films such as ‘Vainilla’ ['Vanilla'] (2004), 'Te llamo luego' [‘I’ll Call You Later’](2005), 'Los faquires' [‘The Circus Performers’](2006), 'La madre' [‘The Mother’] (2009), ‘Las voces’ [‘The Voices’] (2013), ‘Buenos Aires, Edén’ (2015), and ‘Geografía, Utah’ [‘Geography, Utah’] (2016). She is currently working on the documentary ‘El cuerpo de la mujer sin sombra’ [‘The Body of a Shadowless Woman’].


James Evans

Evans is a film critic and an Anglo-Canadian historian. As a member of the International Federation of Film Critics, he has served on festival juries at the festivals of Venice, Reykjavik, Karlovy Vary, Seville, Cluj-Napoca, and Bratislava. He has also worked independently in Toronto, Edinburgh, and London. Evans has contributed articles to magazines such as 'Little White Lies,’ 'Total Film,’ 'Electric Sheep,' and 'Cinema Scope,’ and has written chapters and essays in various publications. He has taught at the University of Brighton, the University of Sussex, and the University of London.

Margarita Chapatte

Chapatte lives in Barcelona. For more than 25 years she has been the editor of ‘La claqueta’ [The Clapboard], a radio program dedicated to the world of cinema and broadcasted all over Spain by Radio Marca, which has just achieved 35 years on the air. The program offers extensive information on the seventh art every Saturday for two hours. In addition to being a correspondent in several national and international festivals, she has collaborated in different magazines such as 'Cine y Más' [‘Cinema and More’] or 'Interfilms,’ as well as other film and television programs in Catalonia. She has been a member of the International Federation of Film Critics for more than two decades.

Ladislav Volko

Volko is a film journalist, sociologist, essayist, poet, ex-diplomat, and a professor at the University of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Trnava (Slovenia). He was born in 1944 and is the author of a number of articles and books on cinema, sociology, culture, literature, and journalism. Among his publications are 'Problems of the Film Critic' (1979), 'Greatest Film Personalities' (1986), 'The Culture of the Film Audience' in Slovakia (1986), and 'Sociological Aspect of Media Culture' (2015). He worked at the Slovak Film Institute (SFI) and taught at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava.


Ana Cea

Born in Valladolid, Cea is a professor in the Journalism degree at the University of Valladolid, as well as in Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Advertising, and Public Relations at the European University of the Atlantic. She is interested in the disciplines of social education, in the field of audiovisuals and cinematography, which she studied at the Universities of Valladolid and Salamanca. She received a Master’s in the History and Aesthetics of Cinematography from the Institute of Cinema at the University of Valladolid. In 2015, she presented her doctoral thesis, titled ‘The representation of society in the Spanish fictitious short film through the Medina del Campo Film Festival: the first decade of the 21st century,’ which was advised by Professor Mercedes Miguel Borrás. She has developed her career as professor in Francisco de Vitoria University, Miguel de Cervantes European University, the University of Valladolid, Nebrija University, and the European University of the Atlantic. She has been director of the Aula de Cine (Miguel de Cervantes European University), and, along with José M. Enríquez, has managed the IV Conference on Cinema and Philosophy. This year she is participating in the Castilla and León Features section with the documentary 'Cortos infinitos’ [‘Infinite Shortfilms’], her directorial debut.

Miguel Ángel Pérez Blanco

Pérez Blanco has a Doctorate in Audiovisual Communication, a Master's Degree in Cinematographic Heritage from the Complutense University of Madrid, and a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Pontifical University of Salamanca. After attending several filming workshops and a formative editing course, he enrolled in the Madrid School of Cinema and Audiovisual Communication, specializing in management. His first short film, 'Carretera al Atlántico' [‘Highway to the Atlantic’] (2011), was screened in around twenty festivals. In 2012 he founded Zapruder Films, with which he produced and directed the short film ‘Los dinosaurios ya no viven aquí’ ['Dinosaurs no longer live here'] (2013), shown in class A festivals such as those in Mar del Plata and Moscow. It even won the prize in the Shorts from Castilla y León section in the 58th Valladolid International Film Week. This year he has made his debut in feature films with 'Europa' [‘Europe’], which is being screened in the festival within the section Features from Castilla y León. The film participated in the official section of the D'A Film Festival in Barcelona, as well as in the Moscow Film Festival. It will be released in cinemas by the end of this year. Pérez Blanco is currently finishing preparations for his next feature film, which will be a Spanish-French co-production.

Angélica Tanarro

Tanarro is a writer and journalist specializing in cultural information. She graduated in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid, and obtained a PhD in Journalism from the University of Valladolid, with a thesis on the journalistic work of Carmen Martín Gaite. In the University of Valladolid she also taught journalism studies. Tanarro contributes to literary and art criticism through various media, mainly in 'El Norte de Castilla' [‘Northern Castilla’]. She has written as a critic on the Official Section of the Valladolid International Film Festival, both in the print edition of the aforementioned newspaper, and in her blog Calle 58 [58th Street]. Tanarro has been editor-in-chief of Culture at ‘El Norte De Castilla,’ and coordinator of its cultural supplement, 'La Sombra del Ciprés' [‘The Shade of the Cypress Tree’], where she also publishes an opinion column. Additionally, she has written the poetry books 'Serán distancia' [‘There Will Be Distance’] and 'Memoria del límite' [‘Memory Limit’]. Her poetry appears in several anthologies and magazines, such as ‘El signo del gorrión’ [‘The Sign of the Sparrow’], 'Cuadernos del matemático' [‘Maths Notebooks’], and ‘Piedra del molina’ [‘Millstone’]. She is an advisory member of the culture committee of the Villalar Foundation, and directs the course 'Cronistas del siglo XXI' [‘Twenty-first Century Reporters’] for the Miguel Delibes Foundation.
