05/02/2018.- The Valladolid International Film Festival has chosen Portugal as its guest country during its 63rd edition. Over the last few years Portuguese cinema has become an important hub of activity within the filmmaking scene with internationally renowned directors whose work harvests awards in numerous film festivals.

The retrospective will feature some of the most significant titles by the last generation of Portuguese filmmakers who have transformed the industry into an international benchmark for auteur cinema: names like Pedro Costa, who took part in the 2013 edition of SEMINCI with the film Historic Centre (which screened out of competition in the Official Section): a four-segment feature that he co-directed with Aki Kaurismäki, Victor Erice and Manoel de Oliveira; or João Canijo, Salomé Lamas and Miguel Gomes, the director of  Redemption and Tabu, among several others.

This film tribute will further include the publication of a book on the Valladolid retrospective prepared in collaboration with Portugal’s General Directorate for Cinema/ICA, the Cinemateca and the   Instituto Cervantes in Lisbon, as well as the Portuguese Embassy in Spain.
