17/10/2018.- Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci) and the regulatory board for the Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Cigales designations of origin will host the Cinema & Wine cycle for the fifth year running, from 24th to 26th October at the Laboratory of Arts in Valladolid (LAVA).
The Cinema & Wine section will open with a special gala on Wednesday 24th October, presented by showman José Corbacho, where an Honorary Spike will be awarded to winegrower and winemaker Carlos Moro. Three short films selected for the 3rd edition of ‘Filming with Rueda’ will also be screened; these films were shot in the wineries of the Designation of Origin which lends its name to the project.
Until 26th October, a series of events will be held on the same stage, including screenings of three films linked to the world of wine. These are Grand Cru by director David Eng, which tells the story of the Canadian Pascal Marchand, who arrived in the French region of Bourgogne aged 21, falling in love with the region and settling there to embark upon a path dotted with obstacles: the path of winemaking.
In The Best Sommelier in the World (El mejor sommelier del mundo), Argentine director Nicolás Carreras shows how the great professionals of this profession have just three days at the World Sommelier Competition to demonstrate their mastery and dedication. Competitiveness thereby becomes one of the stars of the film. Finally, in the film Wine Calling by French director Bruno Sauvard, rock and wine culture come together in a film in which prestigious winemakers recount their experiences in the region of Occitanie.
At the end of each of the screenings, viewers will have an exciting opportunity to enjoy a tasting of one hundred brands from the Ribera del Duero, Cigales and Rueda designations of origin. Products from Castile and León will also be available to taste, presented by traditional food producers from Castile and León / Tierra de Sabor trademark.
The events on 25th and 26th October will be presented by actors Fernando Gil and Ana Milán respectively.
Seminci’s Cinema & Wine cycle is sponsored by the Ribera del Duero, Cigales and Rueda designations of origin, as well as Valladolid City Council, Valladolid Provincial Council, the Department for Agriculture and Livestock of the Regional Government of Castile and León (Land of Flavour), LAVA, the newspaper El Norte de Castilla, and radio stations Europa FM and Onda Cero.
