10.17.2017.- The Valladolid International Film Festival (Seminci) and the regulatory councils of the Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Cigales Designations of Origin will hold, for the fourth consecutive year, the Cinema & Wine cycle, which will take place this year from October 25th to 27th in the Valladolid Performing Arts Laboratory (LAVA). The Cinema and Wine section will open with a special gala, hosted by showman José Corbacho. During the ceremony, Pascual Herrera, who was president of the Cigales Denomination of Origin, will be posthumously awarded the Golden Spike of Honor.  Until the 27th, on the same stage, a series of related events will be carried out, including the screening of films linked to the world of wine.

André – The Voice of Wine: Narrated by Ralph Fiennes, a US, German, and Russian co-production (2017), directed by Mark Tchelistcheff, tells of the efforts of André Tchelistcheff, the director’s uncle, a benchmark for winemakers around the world for relaunching the US wine industry after the Prohibition. A second documentary, Sour Grapes, by Jerry Rothwell and Reuben Atlas (United States, United Kingdom and France, 2016), investigates the story of a famous and ingenious wine forger, Rudy Kurniawan.

Fiction also finds its place in the Cinema & Wine Cycle with the screening of the French film Ce qui nous lie [Back to Burgundy]. Directed by Cédric Klapisch, this film is about the reunion of three brothers at the family vineyards.

This same cycle will exhibit the short films selected in the second edition Rueda con Rueda, a festival that awards prizes for a total amount of 10,000 euros for works filmed in wineries within the Rueda Denomination of Origin. Actresses Nadia de Santiago and Ingrid García-Jonsson, filmmaker Paco Plaza, director of Seminci Javier Angulo, and general director of DO Rueda, Santiago Mora, are members of the jury that will decide this year’s winners.

At the end of each of the screenings, attendees will have the lucky opportunity to enjoy a tasting of one hundred brands of the Ribera del Duero, Cigales, and Rueda Designations of Origin. In addition, there will be a tasting of products from Castilla y León, presented by Tierra de Sabor [Land of Flavor], food artisans from the region, as well as a tasting of Icelandic salmon, as Iceland is the guest country of the 62nd Week.

Seminci’s Cinema & Wine is promoted, in addition to the aforementioned designations, by the Valladolid Council, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Castilla y León Region (Tierra de Sabor), El Norte de Castilla, which will publish all the information concerning each event each day, Europa FM and Onda Cero, an official station that will make live broadcasts from the Valladolid Performing Arts Laboratory. Individual daily tickets will go on sale for 10 euros, which includes the tasting of one hundred quality wines, the gastronomic offers, entrance to the screening of the film, and participation in all the day’s activities. The price for all three days of the cycle is 25 euros.
